The
Best of "I Can't Believe It's Not Butter Chicken"
A
Live Sketch Comedy Night

Imagine
taking a little bit of "Saturday Night Live", mixing it
with some ol' skool "In Living Colour", throwing in a
scoop of ethnic, sprinkling a little singing n' dancing, and topping
it off with a whole lot of Bollywood. You're going to get something
so tasty it'll make you scream
"I
Can't Believe it's Not Butter Chicken!!!"
South
Asian Arts is teaming up with Vancouver's only South Asian sketch
comedy group, Bollywood
Shenanigans. This talented collective of actors, dancers and
writers have travelled as far as Mumbai, toured North America and
have been in numerous films and commercials, and with three SOLD
OUT shows in their back pocket, they're ready to present to you
some of their best skits to date...and of course a couple of new
ones as well.
If
you've never been to one of their sketch comedy shows, get ready
for a show that tackles (and chuckles at) issues regarding race,
sex, diaspora, village life, and pretty much anything else you can
think of! They're edgy, funny, racy, totally rated R
and did
we mention there will be some Bollywood dancing as well?
Please
see below for details and we hope to see you there!

The
Olympics

Amazing!
There's simply no other word to describe the Vancouver 2010 Winter
Games. It was the experience of a lifetime that left us all with
memories to share for many years to come. We were fortunate enough
to have been a part of many of the Olympic festivities, showcasing
Indian dance, music, and culture throughout the city.
Thank
you to our friends at Footedge Dance Company, Dhol Nation Academy,
Elite Bhangra Entertainment, Naqsh, Shan E Punjab Arts Club, the
UBC Girlz Bhangra Team, Sampoornam, Shamik the Beatboxer, Neelamjit
Dhillon and all the other performers who worked with us during the
past two months.
Thank
you to all those who came out to show your support. Pictures and
videos will be uploaded soon so please check back regularly!

Bollywood
Wedding: July 23-26, 2009
 |
In
partnership with New Works and the Pacific National
Exhibition, South Asian Arts presented Bollywood
Wedding in the Italian Gardens on the PNE fair grounds.
It was an outdoor, interactive opportunity for the audience
to experience traditional Indian wedding customs, in the form
of a wild and hilarious event, bringing the whole dysfunctional
family together for an evening of fun and melodrama.
The
audiences were treated to six SOLD OUT shows in four
days!

Bollywood
Wedding was voted as the "Best Outdoor Interactive Theatre
Event of 2009" by the Georgia Straight. Click here
