This past Friday and Saturday, I attended the ArtSummit 2011, a conference for anyone involved in the Vancouver arts scene, held at the new SFU Woodward’s building. The two days were packed with seminars and panels during which I had the opportunity to ask questions, rub shoulders, and mingle with some of the artists at the forefront of the quest to make the arts scene more accessible to the Vancouver public. Just a few of the artists I had the great fortune to meet, speak and listen to included film producer Penelope Buitenhuis, artistic director of Music on Main’s David Pay, arts facilitator Nadia Chaney, curator of the Vancouver Art Gallery Heidi Reitmaier, and executive director of New Works Joyce Rosario. As probably the youngest person there, I mostly listened to the experiences of the artists around me, and it was wonderful to hear about the projects everyone had, and to hear the ideas a group of people could create for the purpose of allowing artists to thrive in this city.
They also served us some delicious sandwiched, cookies, muffins, tea and coffee throughout the weekend. It was definitely a little perk!
Anways, enjoy the game tonight!
