South Asian Arts is proud to make our official debut down in sunny Los Angeles this week! SAMSARA, presented by the Karmetik Machine Orchestra will be debuting on April 12th and 13th at the REDCAT Theatre in the Walt Disney Concert Hall Complex.
Known for their musical robots, Karmetik has been building and evolving these new instruments for about 5 years now. We were lucky to begin our relationship with them 2 years ago at their show in 2010. From that show, Karmetik invited us to be a part of the creative story boarding for SAMSARA and select dancers from contemporary and south Asian disciplines to work with further enhancing their artistic endeavours.
SAMSARA is a musical journey through ancient Indian Fables selected from the Panchatantra and Jatka Tails. The audience will be graced with south Asian dance, animation, music and design.
"Working with the musical Robots from the Machine Orchestra has been an amazing experience. I've enjoyed being a part of burgeoning technology, and expanding my own thoughts of performance and tradition"
- Raakhi Sinha Kapur
We're happy to have our Artistic Director Raakhi Sinha Kapur take a leap down south to the U.S. and we are excited that she is collaborating with other Vancouver artists who now call L.A. home, ie. Neelamjit Dhillon and Agam Darshi.
Trisha Rampersad of Bhana Designs, a Vancouver fashion house, has designed the clothing worn by our dancers Aarti Shah, Kiran Mander Sooch and Monisha Lal Manhas. We wish them all a great week and we're excited to hear about the shows when they get home!
Tell your friends in LA to go check out this interdisciplinary extravaganza!
