No Holds Bar - PuSh Festival

Thursday, January 24, 2008
Atlantis Nightclub, Vancouver, BC

Presented by South Asian Arts in association with PuSh International Performing Arts Festival

Break the drums, tear the strings, turn up the speakers and make some music! No Holds Bar was a carefully orchestrated, off-the-cuff explosion of Vancouver’s finest musicians, bringing together world drums, including the Dhol and Tabla, as well as bagpipes, saxophone, and fiddle. With the addition of the Bay Area’s hottest DJ Jimmy Love, Seattle’s DJ Collage and local spinster DJ Tspoon, it was a massive cyclone of energy.

Welcome to music to the extreme, ripping at the seams with instrumentation from all over the world to create bumping mayhem never heard before. It was an evening of high-intensity music, dance, and jam.

Featured Artists included San Fransico hip-hop Bhangra DJ Jimmy Love; Seattle’s DJ Collage; from Vancouver’s Beats Without Borders crew, DJ Tspoon; home-town Irish/Punjabi fusion band Delhi2Dublin; Vancouver’s premier South Asian dance troupe FootEdge Dance Company; Michael O’Neill & Sylvia DeTar on the bagpipes with Neelamjit Dhillon on the Tabla; Coat Cooke on the saxophone; Prashant John & Sunny Matharu on the Bansuri & Tabla; and the musicians of United Bhangra on the Dhol, Sarangi, & Chimta
